MCDM, EMO and Hybrid Approaches: Tutorial and Review

Most of the practical applications that require optimization often involve multiple objectives. These objectives, when conflicting in nature, pose both as well decision-making challenges. An procedure for such a multi-objective problem requires computing (computer-based search) and decision making to identify most preferred solution. Researchers practitioners working various domains have integrated tasks several ways, giving rise variety algorithms handle problems. For instance, an priori approach formulating (or eliciting) maker’s value function then performing one-shot function, whereas posteriori large number diverse Pareto-optimal solutions be available before final is made. Alternatively, interactive involves interactions with maker guide search towards better solution). In our tutorial survey paper, we first review fundamental concepts optimization. Second, discuss classic approaches from field Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM), followed by underlying idea methods Evolutionary Multi-Objective Optimization (EMO). Third, consider promising MCDM EMO hybrid aim capitalize on strengths two domains. We conclude discussions important behavioral considerations related use future work.
